Civil status documents and related information are issued upon request to the relevant persons, as well as their spouses, registered partners, parents and grandparents/great grandparents and descendants. Persons other than those listed above are only entitled to receive civil status documents and related information if they can credibly demonstrate that they have a legal interest.

Civil status document can only be issued if the event relating to the document took place in today’s Steglitz-Zehlendorf district.

• Certified register printouts (copies) from the register of births, marriages, civil partnerships and deaths
• Marriage certificates

You can apply for your civil status document using the following methods:

Online application via the Berlin service portal:

If you are unable to apply for the document online, we will also accept your application by letter or fax.

We require the following information from you or the relevant person to apply for the documents:

• Surname and all first names (if known)
• Address of the applicant
• Certification information (place and date of the event, registry office, register number, if applicable)
• Reason for the request (marriage, pension provider, other)
