Karteikartenschrank aus Holz

The registry office currently only has records concerning:

  • Birth entries from the year of birth 1912,
  • Marriage entries from the year of marriage 1942 onwards and
  • Death entries from the year of death 1992.

Civil status records from earlier years are subject to archive law and are no longer subject to civil status law, i.e. civil status documents or information can no longer be created from them.

The registry office has handed over all archive procedures (civil registers and collective files) from the years prior to the above-mentioned periods to the state archives.

Archive enquiries for these records should be addressed to:

Landesarchiv Berlin
Eichborndamm 115-121
13403 Berlin
Website: The Landesarchiv Berlin
E-mail: Send an e-mail to the Landesarchiv

Depending on the date of certification, the registry office may only act as the archiving authority for entries from 1912, 1942 and 1992 (see above). Access to the earlier civil status records is subject to archive law. In order to access these, a special written application must be submitted which you can obtain from the registry office on request.

Accessing information on archiving procedures is subject to a fee.

In accordance with Section 61 Para. 2 of the German civil status act (Personenstandgesetz – PStG), the archiving regulations apply for the use of civil status registers and the associated collective files after the expiry of certain time limits (Section 5 Para. 5 PStG). Until the records are transferred to the Berlin State Archives, the registry offices are “other public archives” within the meaning of Section 10 of the archives act of the State of Berlin (Archivgesetz des Landes Berlin – ArchGB).
Upon application and with the consent of the responsible registry office, archive material can be used in accordance with Section 8 Para. 1 ArchGB in conjunction with the regulations for use applicable in the registry office and payment of the relevant fees.

The fees amount to the following:

  • Use of archive material per application: EUR 30.00
