All’s well that ends well: After two and a half years of hard work, the SafeCi project team presented its results at the final conference.
On the premises of the Water Police, State Secretary Torsten Akmann (Senate Department of the Interior) and Police President Dr. Slowik ceremoniously opened the (hybrid) event in front of around 50 international guests, including high-ranking representatives of the European consortium, staff members of the Berlin Police, the German Federal Police, representatives of other European security authorities and guests from research and politics. For all participants, it was a great opportunity to be able to meet again in person at the end. The moderator Bettina Rauch Schulz (Head of International Affairs / Berlin Police) successfully led through the varied programme:
- Mathias Jangenas from the Stockholm City Police reported on the attack in Stockholm in 2017
- Prof. Dr. Dietmar Heubrock, Head of Legal Psychology at the University of Bremen, gave a short lecture on the topic of behavioural sciences and the police: future directions of proactive policing
- Andrea Volkmer from the European Commission gave a vivid presentation on the possibilities of the new funding period (ISF-P)
Since the number of participants was limited due to the pandemic, the event was made available by live-streamed to other guests and many other contributors.
Singer Sebastian Stipp and the Berlin Police Berlin Band provided the right atmosphere.
The grand finale of the event was the handing over of the handbook “European Recommendations for Action to Protect Public Spaces against Terrorist Attacks”.
The police chief handed over the 400-page work, hot off the press, to the project team.
Together, the SafeCi team and the international consortium have created a very practical work for (international) security authorities and thus have made a valuable contribution to the security of public spaces.
