The Regional Socio-Educational Office provides information:

  • on the rights of parents, children and young people,
  • on the services provided by private agencies, counseling services, neighborhood institutions and initiatives, etc.

The Regional Socio-Educational Office provides advice:

  • when parents are uncertain about their role and responsibilities,
  • when parents separate or divorce,
  • when conflicts arise within families,
  • when parents feel at a loss, at the end of their tether, and when they worry about their child because it is having difficulty at school, displaying signs of retarded development or prone to addictive behavior (drugs, alcohol, computers…),
  • when children and adolescents do not receive appropriate care (e.g. neglect),
  • when there is a suspicion of abuse, including sexual abuse, or a risk of homelessness.

The Regional Socio-Educational Office provides contacts and support and organizes assistance:

  • when concerns arise about a child’s development,
  • when a child has difficulty at school,
  • when educational difficulties arise,
  • when children do not receive adequate supervision and care, e.g. in the case of child sponsorship projects,
  • when parents feel overchallenged or children are at risk.

The Regional Socio-Educational Office provides educational aid and other youth welfare service in accordance with SGB VIII and assists families and youth welfare agencies in identifying appropriate forms of support. A broad spectrum of ambulant, semi-ambulant and in-house support options are available.

The Regional Socio-Educational Office provides assistance in crisis situations and protects children. It protects the rights and interests of children and young persons:

  • when parents are suddenly no longer available,
  • when young children no longer wish to or are no longer able to live at home,
  • in the case of violent events with a family,
  • when arguments over the separation of parents lead to a “fight over the child”,
  • with regard to all forms of risk, neglect, abuse and sexual violence within families.

You can also approach the Regional Socio-Educational Office when you are concerned about a child.

The Regional Socio-Educational Office participates in proceedings before the Family Court.

Such proceedings may concern:
  • visitation arrangements
  • residence arrangements
  • arrangements on parental care or aspects of parental care
  • allocation of an apartment
  • ordinances based on the Protection Against Violence Act
  • adoption of a stepchild, adoption of a child by a couple living in civil union.

In the case of conflicts related to the separation or divorce of parents, and in the interest of the children affected, it is our task to actively support parents in developing possible solutions and applying for appropriate support.
