Jazz stipend

Target group / Purpose of funding

Stipends are awarded under this programme to jazz musicians and groups that have a track record of producing outstanding work. Stipends are awarded on the basis of the artistic quality, continuity and potential for development of the musician’s/group’s work.

The following may be considered for funding:

a) the development of major compositions and improvised projects with a particular theme, self-organized residencies abroad for the purpose of undertaking private lessons with internationally recognized musicians or participation in a study trip or an advanced course of studies at a prestigious academy of music or similar.

b) the production of music recordings in a studio and/or the production of professional video clips.

Eligibility and conditions

• Stipends are awarded to jazz musicians who have won recognition for the quality of their work and are able to verify this with a portfolio of compositions and recordings.
• Applicants wishing to undertake a residency abroad or similar must provide evidence that they possess the necessary contacts at their chosen destination and a letter of confirmation from their hosts.
• Applicants to this programme must live and work in Berlin.
• Work on the project must commence during the funding year.

Funding volume

Stipends are awarded in denominations of 2,000.00 €, 4,000.00 €, 6,000.00 € or 8,000.00 €.

Call for applications

There will be an annual call for applications issued in the fall of each year.
