Target group / Purpose of funding
The work stipends are intended for the artistic development of professional comic artists. Stipends are provided for work processes of a limited duration, for the continuation or completion of specific work. The criteria for awarding a stipend are primarily artistic and content-related quality as well as innovation.
The purpose of the grant is also to support the development of Berlin‘s comic scene.
Eligibility and conditions
- Applicants must have publications or samples of their work that show artistic ability.
- Comic artists applying to this programme must live and work in Berlin (primary residence).
- Students cannot apply
- Applicants who hold a professorship at the time of application are not eligible to apply.
- The online application must be completed and submitted in German.
Funding volume
The duration of the work stipend depends on the scope of the work project. Work stipends can be awarded for 4, 8 or 12 months – subject to the availability of funds. The stipends are expected to be paid out in monthly installments of 2.000 €.
Call for applications
A call for applications to the work stipend programme is usually issued in August of each year for the following year.
Jury
An independent jury decides on the applications. The jury members for the 2024 work stipends are: Hamed Eshrat, Jakob Hinrichs, Elke Renate Steiner, Gesa Ufer and Dr Beate Wild. The results of the jury meeting will be communicated by email by January 2024.
