On the night of 24th May 2000, Dieter Eich was first brutally beaten up and later murdered in cold blood by four neo-Nazis in his flat here in Walter-Friedrich-Straße 52.
The motive for the murder was hatred of the unemployed.
The 60-year-old had no job at the time and was going through a serious personal crisis.
Friends of Dieter Eich found him dead in his bed the next day.
Dieter Eich became a victim of an ideology that measures the value of people by their capacity to work and their employment status.
