From 1909 to 1910, the painter Max Liebermann had a summer residence built on the lake Grosser Wannsee by Paul Baumgarten. The garden he designed himself inspired more than 200 of his paintings. The Liebermann Villa is supported by the Max Liebermann Society (Max-Liebermann-Gesellschaft), founded in 1995, which had this important cultural historical site classified as a historical monument, restored, and reopened in 2006 as a museum.
