The original entrance to the St. Hedwig and Französische Domgemeinde cemeteries was on Liesenstrasse; after 13 August 1961, the only access to the cemeteries was from the back through a housing block on Wöhlertstrasse. Around 15 meters of the outer wall that blocked the main entrance can still be seen near the S-Bahn bridge at the northern tip of the cemetery grounds. A wall of concrete slabs, intended to reinforce the outer wall in “securing” the grounds, has also been preserved. The brick wall on Gartenstrasse, built to mark the boundary of the Nordbahnhof train station, initially served as a section of the wall until being reinforced by a second barrier in the second half of the 1960s.
