Berlin Wall Memorial Visitor Center

Besucherzentrum Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer

The first stop for visitors to the Memorial and for registered groups is the Visitor Center (designed by Mola+Winkelmüller Architekten) close to the Nordbahnhof S-Bahn station.

Information on what the Memorial offers and guides to the entire memorial grounds and to other Wall-related sites in Berlin are available here.

An introductory film on the history of the Berlin Wall is shown on the upper level of the Visitor Center, and many different events are hosted here.

A specialized bookstore on the lower level offers a broad range of non-fiction, scholarly publications, literature, photo books, and films on the history of the Berlin Wall and German division. Information on Wall-related sites in Berlin and along the former Iron Curtain can be accessed on computers here.

From the Visitor Center you can head over to the outdoor exhibition on the history of the Wall, which is on the former border strip along Bernauer Strasse, and to the other parts of the Memorial: the Documentation Center and its exhibition, “1961ǀ1989. Die Berliner Mauer,” and the Chapel of Reconciliation. From Tuesday to Friday at 12:00 noon, daily prayers recall the fate of people who died at the Berlin Wall.
