With around 380 medical technology and 300 biotechnology companies, 35 pharmaceutical companies and 145 clinics, Berlin is one of the most important life science locations in Germany.

Around 410,000 people work in the healthcare sector in the capital region. The sector generates about 34 billion Euro in revenue each year.

The concentration of numerous large research institutions and universities with research focus on life sciences is unique in Europe. These include internationally renowned institutions such as the Charité, Europe’s largest university hospital, the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine, the Institute for Micro and Medical Technology at TU Berlin, the German Rheumatism Research Centre, and the German Heart Centre Berlin.
