Berlin is not renewing its contract with the operators of the Luca app, which expires in March.

Contact tracing is eliminated in many areas

This was announced by Berlin's Senator for Health Ulrike Gote (Green Party) on Tuesday (Feb. 1, 2022) after the Senate meeting. The use of the app is no longer necessary, she said, because there is no contact tracing in many areas due to the large number of infections. The Luca app, which has always been controversial, was intended to help restaurant owners and event organizers with the mandated contact tracing of patrons without having to use paperwork. It could be linked directly to health departments.
