Due to problems with E. coli bacteria, the Berlin State Office for Health and Social Affairs (LAGeSo) is currently warning against swimming at the Müggelsee lido.
According to the latest measurements, elevated levels of so-called faecal bacteria were detected. For health protection reasons, it is therefore recommended not to swim there. In addition, the sunny and warm summer weather is causing problems with algae in numerous bodies of water - especially blue-green algae. The Strandbad Wannsee and several bathing spots on the Dahme and Unterhavel rivers are among those affected.
Blue-green algae occur in stagnant water, particularly in the summer months when water temperatures are high. A bluish-greenish turbidity of the water and the formation of streaks are signs of the presence of the bacteria. The state office warned against swimming in murky waters and recommended avoiding areas with green and blue-green streaks.
