BVG abolishes cash payment on buses

From 1 September, it will only be possible to buy tickets on Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) buses without cash. Around 99 per cent of customers now board with a valid ticket, according to the BVG.

Tickets at Spätis and petrol stations: BVG plans new sales network

On average, passengers now only pay for three tickets per day and bus with cash - according to the BVG, this decision will relieve the burden on bus drivers enormously. It should also be quicker and easier for passengers. Anyone who does not have a Deutschlandticket, Berlin travelcard or other season ticket and does not buy their ticket via an app or at a ticket machine beforehand can pay with a debit or major credit card, digital services such as Apple or Google Pay or a rechargeable BVG prepaid card. These are available at Lotto Berlin's customer centres and sales outlets. A sales network with new cooperation partners such as Spätis, retailers and petrol stations is planned.

Card payment takes the strain off bus drivers

Bus drivers will no longer have to settle their accounts and carry cash. In the challenging staffing situation, this is an important sign in the direction of the employees, the BVG announced. Information on connections, stops and fares is still available.
