People in Berlin need more opportunities to protect themselves from the heat and to cool down while being outside. A Cooling Point is a temporary location limited to the summer, which can be set up in public places to provide citizens with shaded seating and cooling options. People are invited to take a seat, cool down and regenerate. The aim is to provide heat relief in areas where the heat stress in the city is particularly high.
The arrangement is flexible due to a modular construction. Thus, the size of the Cooling Points can vary at different locations. In addition to seating modules, a Cooling Point may include a canopy, greenery, and an optional supply with drinking water, or its proximity to public drinking fountains. The installation of plants improves air quality and provides a cooling effect.
