Ausflugsziele der Berliner

Landgut Waldfrieden

Landgut Waldfrieden, 1936

I very much want to thank you for sending me aktuell. I much appreciate it, but this time I particularly want to thank you for the calendar “Ausflugsziele der Berliner”. When I saw the picture of Scharmützelsee I had tears in my eyes.
I left Berlin in 1938 at the age of 18. In 1945 I learnt that my parents had perished on the so called “Verlorenen Transport”. I assume that you are aware of the wonderful work done by Erika Arlt in Troebitz. The train finally stopped there and my parents are buried there as well. As you no doubt can image my feelings about Germany are very negative, although 60 years make one more mellow.
However, there is one place in this world that I will never forget and always dearly love. It is the “Gut” that my parents owned at Scharmützelsee. I spent the most wonderful youth there. I was disappointed that you show Saarow instead of my beloved Waldfrieden. In fact in 1992 I took my two grandsons to Germany. Firstly to visit Troebitz, and then to take them to Waldfrieden. It was, of course, very run down, but the villa seemed to be in excellent condition. I did not enter it. I want to remember it the way it was. The house is under Historical Society Protection.
Thank you again.
