The Berlin startup ecosystem has developed into an indispensable pillar of Berlin’s economy – and one that remains stable even in difficult times. In 2022, around 90,000 people were employed in Berlin startups. Around 600 new startups are founded every year. These have created tens of thousands of new jobs in recent years. Around half or more of the VC money invested in German startups has been flowing into Berlin for years. By cooperating with established companies, startups contribute to strengthening competitiveness in many sectors of the economy with their innovative solutions.

Berlin is in competition with other international startup cities. Well-trained young talent, a powerful and modern infrastructure, good networking opportunities and an administration that is open and accessible to the needs of founders are relevant factors for continuing to be successful as a startup capital in the future.

With targeted support services and activities, the State of Berlin is consolidating its position as a startup stronghold in Germany and Europe:
