Prinzessinnengärten in Kreuzberg
One of the showcase projects of urban gardening in Berlin is the Prinzessinnengärten (Princess Gardens) at Moritzplatz, which were created on a brownfield site.

The flower beds in the Prinzessinnengärten are mobile. This allows frost-sensitive plants to overwinter in a warmer place nearby. There is another reason for planting in rice sacks, crates and tetrapaks: the organizers have to rent the space from the city every year. In other community gardens in Berlin, however, the plants are allowed to take root properly.

In the Prinzessinnengärten, everyone pitches in. Especially in midsummer, a lot of watering is needed because the moisture in the containers evaporates quickly.
