Sanssouci Park at the heart of the stunning cultural landscape of the so-called "Prussian Arcadia" is one of the highlights of this guided tour. Laid out during the regency of Frederick the Great, the baroque park with its stately palaces, long and winding pathways and elaborate gardens is considered one of the most beautiful landscape parks worldwide. Participants will see Sanssouci Palace with its impressive vineyard terraces and visit the tomb of Frederick the Great. The tour continues to the representative New Palace in the western part of Sanssouci Park and Orangery Palace, an imposing Italian-style building with arcades and terraces reflecting the Romantic attitude of King Frederick William IV.
In the New Garden in northern Potsdam participants will visit Cecilienhof Palace, a place that went down in history. At the post-war Potsdam Conference in 1945 the leaders of the allied forces negotiated here the future and shape of Germany and Central Europe.
Dutch Quarter, Russian Colony Alexandrowka and rebuilt City Palace
The tour includes a trip to the historic old town of Potsdam. Built in the 18th century, the Dutch Quarter is a special jewel of the city with Dutch-style red brick houses containing tiny jewellery shops, cosy cafés and art galleries. Further north lies the Russian colony of Alexandrowka, a log house neighbourhood and architectural monument to the close relationship between the Houses of Hohenzollern and Romanov.
The most recently added sight on the tour is the rebuilt City Palace at the Old Market. Modelled on the 17th century baroque building destroyed in 1945, the new Palace was reconstructed with a historic façade and a modern interior in 2013 and serves as the seat of the parliament of the federal state of Brandenburg today.
