Even after the end of most nationwide Coronavirus protection regulations, Berlin continues to recommend the use of masks for cultural institutions in the capital.
On Friday (01 April 2022), Senator for Culture Klaus Ledererspoke of a pandemic situation with high infection numbers. It would be "negligent" on the part of the federal government to simply let the measures expire, the left-wing politician said in a statement.
The Senate recommends masks plus vaccination or test certificates for events "for the next few weeks". Masks and the suqare metre rule are recommended for suseums, galleries and memorials, while archives and libraries are supposed to keep up social distancing. Music and art schools should also keep masks and minimum distances. For churches, FFP2 masks are recommended.
Previously, numerous institutions had already announced the continuation of the mandatory wearing of face masks, referring to their domiciliary rights. These include the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Deutsche Oper and Komische Oper, which want masks in the foyers and in the square. This also applies to the Philharmonie, Deutsches Theater, Schaubühne, Volksbühne and Berliner Ensemble. The State Museums, the Humboldt Forum and the Jewish Museum also adhere to the mask requirement.
