For better protection against infections, FFP2 masks will be mandatory on campus at Berlin universities starting Saturday.
This was announced by the Senate Department for Higher Education and Research, Health, Long-Term Care and Gender Equality on Thursday (Feb. 3, 2022). The Berlin Senate had decided on a corresponding regulation at its meeting on Tuesday, the reason being the rising infection numbers in Berlin. During exams, students are allowed to take off the masks if all are tested negative.
Research Secretary Armaghan Naghipour emphasized: "Study progress and health protection are important concerns to me. FFP2 masks provide much better protection against infection than medical masks." She welcomed the fact that many students already chose to wear FFP2 masks and assessed the new regulation as an important step toward containing the pandemic and maintaining in-class learning.
