Leopoldplatz drug scene: New contact point for complaints

Sonn there will be two so-called Infopoints on Leopoldplatz in Wedding for suggestions, complaints and information.

This was announced by the Mitte district, to which Wedding belongs. On the one hand, the team will be available there. There will also be consultation hours with social workers, district coordinators, district office staff and the police. District mayor Stefanie Remlinger (Greens) wants to offer consultation hours there.

Two info points at Leopoldplatz

Leopoldplatz is considered a hotspot for the drug scene, where crack use in particular has recently become a major problem. At a "security summit" in September 2023, the Senate, districts and other stakeholders agreed on measures to make Leopoldplatz safer, just like Görlitzer Park in Kreuzberg, and to help drug addicts. One info point is planned for the front part of Leopoldplatz, the second on the northern part, the so-called Maxplatz - both in a construction trailer.

Infopoints open on November 8

Remlinger will open the Infopoints on Friday next week (November 8). "We are delighted that this measure has finally been funded by the Berlin Security Summit," said Remlinger. She hopes that this will establish a direct line to local residents and increase the subjective feeling of security on the ground. During a visit to Leopoldplatz in July, Berlin's Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) said that a mix of prevention, social services and repression was needed in the fight against drug dealing. At the moment, many people avoid the square. "We have to change that."
