The number of tourists to Berlin rose significantly in the first nine months of 2024 compared to the previous year.
From January to September, 9.5 million guests with almost 23 million overnight stays came to the capital, according to the Berlin-Brandenburg Statistical Office. This corresponds to a year-on-year increase of 5.1 percent in the number of guests and 2.7 percent in the number of overnight stays.
According to the figures, the increase in visitors from abroad was particularly high. From countries other than Germany, 3.6 million travelers with 9.7 million overnight stays came to Berlin for an average of 2.7 days. That was 11.5 percent more visitors and 7.3 percent more overnight stays than in the same period in 2023. A highlight for tourists this year was the European Football Championship in Germany with six matches in the capital.
According to the figures, travelers from the UK spent the most nights in Berlin (1.04 million). This was followed almost equally by Americans (1.01 million), the Dutch (705,000), Italians (576,000) and Spaniards (546,000). On average, 56.8 percent of beds in Berlin were occupied.
