S-Bahn service to BER interrupted from mid-September

S9 zum Flughafen BER

Due to construction work, there will be restrictions on S-Bahn services to the capital's BER airport for weeks from mid-September.

The S9 and S45 lines will initially be interrupted between BER and Schöneweide from 16 September to 14 October 2024, as announced by the S-Bahn. The closure between Schöneweide and Adlershof will then be lifted, but there will still be no S-Bahn services to the airport from there until 8 November. The ‘Berliner Morgenpost’ had previously reported.

Travelling with replacement bus services or regional trains

However, there will already be restrictions between 13 and 16 September. Even then, S-Bahn services to the airport and between Spindlersfeld and Baumschulenweg will be cancelled. During these periods, the company will be organising a replacement bus service between Schöneweide and BER. Passengers can transfer from Berlin to the already faster regional trains such as the RE 8, the airport express FEX or the RB 23.

Preparation of the route for the digital train control system ZBS

During the construction work, the line is being prepared for the ZBS digital train control system. This requires extensive underground cable construction work along around 13 kilometres of track. There will also be timetable changes on other S-Bahn connections in south-east Berlin as a result. The line between Spindlersfeld and Schöneweide will be closed between 18 October and 4 November. During this time, the S47 will only run between Schöneweide and Hermannstraße. There will be a replacement bus service on the closed section.
