Members of the Berlin Senate plan to visit the district of Lichtenberg on Tuesday.
The regular Senate meeting will take place in the morning at the district town hall. This will be followed by a joint meeting with the district office. Governing Mayor Kai Wegner and District Mayor Martin Schaefer (both CDU) will make a public statement on the deliberations immediately afterwards.
A joint tour of the district by bus is then planned. The stops include a district center where the Social Health Association is based. The association cooperates with nine medical practices to ensure medical care, especially for older people.
At the Hohenschönhausen Memorial, the director of the memorial, Helge Heidemeyer, will provide information about the various forms and consequences of political persecution in the GDR. A guided tour of the former Stasi prison is also planned. Other stops include a housing project of the state-owned building company Gewobag with more than 1,500 apartments and the fourth-generation family business Greif Mietwäsche. It supplies rental textiles for the catering and hotel industry, now also climate-neutral.
