Rail traffic restrictions on Friday

Train passengers in Berlin have to be prepared for major disruptions on Friday.

Since the morning, train services in the city center between Alexanderplatz and Ostbahnhof have been interrupted because objects are lying on the tracks. The federal police are on duty, as a spokesperson confirmed. More detailed information on the reasons for the closure was not initially available. According to Deutsche Bahn, no trains on the S3, S5, S7, S75 and S9 lines will be running on the affected section of line. Passengers should use BVG transport as an alternative.

Long-distance trains affected as well

Long-distance services are affected as well. According to the Deutsche Bahn timetable information, all ICE and IC trains between Berlin Ostbahnhof and Berlin Hauptbahnhof will be rerouted in both directions. There will be stop cancellations and track changes. Delays of around 30 minutes are currently to be expected, said a railroad spokeswoman. It is currently not possible to estimate how long the restrictions will last.

State visits: Selensky and Herzog in Berlin

Further traffic restrictions are expected from late morning due to two state visits. Major security measures are in place in Berlin for the arrival of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selensky and Israeli President Isaac Herzog.

S-Bahn north-south tunnel open again

According to the Berlin S-Bahn, delays and cancellations may therefore occur on all lines. Traffic in the north-south tunnel, which reopened today, is affected as well: the S1 and S2 trains have only been running every 20 minutes since 8 a.m. The tunnel had been closed for several weeks since the beginning of January. Other lines such as the S41 and S42 ring lines are also running less frequently. The S26 and S85 have been completely suspended.
