The trade union Verdi has called for a warning strike lasting several hours at Berlin's public transport company (BVG) on Friday.
The warning strike will last from the start of operations in the early morning until 10 am, the union announced on Monday. In Brandenburg, public transport will be on strike all day. "We are certain that this industrial action will clearly show how serious our colleagues are," said chief negotiator Jeremy Arndt. "When the warning strike ends at 10 am, it can be assumed that there will still be restrictions beyond that." How long this lasts will depend on the organisational possibilities of the BVG.
With the exception of Bavaria, the union is negotiating new collective agreements for public transport employees in all federal states in parallel with the municipal employers' associations. The content of the demands varies from state to state. The negotiations in Berlin are about the so-called general collective agreement for local public transport (TV-N). This means that working conditions are being negotiated, not wages and salaries.
