Three endangered Berlin plant species are to be saved from disappearing on the Pfaueninsel.
On Thursday morning, two species of broom and fragrant cabbages were planted in the 67-hectare landscaped park near the border with Brandenburg - a total of 150 plants were planned. "It is a prelude with flowering, emblematic species that were once typical of Berlin but are now only found here occasionally," said the director of the Berlin Botanical Garden, Thomas Borsch, to the German Press Agency. The Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation and the Berlin Nature Conservation Foundation are also involved in the pilot project. According to the Botanical Garden, more than 700 species of wild plants are endangered in Berlin.
