Free digital registration certificate now available

Berliners no longer have to go to the citizens' registration office to obtain a registration certificate.

It is now available as a digital service. Berlin's Chief Digital Officer and State Secretary for Digitalisation, Martina Klement, officially launched the digital registration certificate for the state of Berlin on Wednesday. The new service provides all Berliners with an uncomplicated way to obtain a registration certificate online and even free of charge.

Citizens' offices issued around 137,000 registration certificates in 2022

From Klement's point of view, this is a win-win situation, as it would also relieve the burden on the citizens' registration offices. A positive side effect: this would free up important capacities for other services and counselling in the citizens' offices. According to the figures, the citizens' offices in Berlin issued around 137,000 registration certificates last year.

Online registration certificate also available in other federal states from 2024

The digital registration certificate developed by the state of Berlin is a "one-for-all service". This means that a new digital solution will also be made available for use by other federal states. From 2024, it should then also be possible to use the online registration certificate in other federal states and municipalities. Klement gave the go-ahead for the new digital citizen service at the Smart Country Convention trade fair.
