Since December 10, it has no longer been possible to book the 29-euro subscription for Berlin's public transport system - but anyone who previously took out one can still use it for the full contract term of one year for this monthly price.
However, all holders of the so-called Berlin ticket will now gradually be automatically transferred to the nationwide Deutschlandticket, as announced by the Senate Department for Transport. This will actually cost 58 euros per month from January. However, the Berlin Senate will refund the difference to Berlin subscribers for the duration of the contract. This means that they will continue to pay only 29 euros per month for the Deutschlandticket.
“Customers of the Berlin travelcard will therefore not incur any disadvantages or costs for the duration of the remaining term of the existing contract,” said the Senate Department for Transport. “Only after the end of the respective minimum term of the previous Berlin-Abo will 58 euros per month be due, unless the contract is terminated.”
The transfer to the Deutschlandticket is automatic. The difference is expected to be paid back by the Senate in the first quarter of next year. If you don't want all this, you can cancel your Berlin subscription early. “The original commitment for twelve months no longer applies, there are no further costs,” it said.
