Berlin's population grew again in the first six months of this year.
On June 30, 3.87 million residents were registered with a main residence in the federal capital, the Office for Statistics Berlin-Brandenburg announced on Thursday. That was just under 15,580 people (0.4 percent) more than on December 31, 2022.
According to the data, the growth resulted exclusively from the increase in people with foreign citizenship, whose number rose by around 23,650 people (2.6 percent). Berlin's population had already reached a new high last year. 3.85 million people had their main residence in the city - more than at any time since reunification. And never between the end of World War II and the German reunification did more people live in city, the figures showed.
