Good water quality in almost all Berlin swimming lakes

Hitzewelle in Deutschland

Almost all swimming lakes in Berlin show a high water quality at the beginning of the summer holidays.

As the Berlin State Office for Health and Social Services announced on Wednesday, all official bathing sites are suitable for swimming - except for the three bathing sites Grunewaldturm, Kleine Badewiese and Breitehorn on the Lower Havel, where the water could potentially be polluted via the sewage system, especially after heavy rainfall.

High temperatures could lead to increase in blue-green algae

According to the state office, waters warming up considerably during high summer temperatures could lead to algae growth and an increase in blue-green algae. However, recent studies have not detected any concentrations of blue-green algae or blue-green algae toxins of health concern. According to the state office, the physico-chemical and microbiological condition of Berlin's surface waters is tested at least every 14 days.
