The Women's Basketball World Cup will take place in Berlin in 2026.
The German Basketball Federation was awarded the contract for the event in three years' time at the award ceremony in the Philippine capital Manila on Friday. From September 4 to 13, 2026, 16 teams will compete for the title at the FIBA Womens Basketball World Cup, initially in four groups of four. The last time a women's basketball world championship was held in Germany was in 1998.
"The promotion of basketball for women and girls will be a focus of our work throughout the German basketball family in the coming years," said DBB President Ingo Weiss. "The Women's World Cup is to be the lighthouse project in this." Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser was pleased with the successful bid. "Being able to host the Women's Basketball World Cup in Germany is a great success for us as a women's sports nation. The World Cup will ensure greater visibility and recognition of women's top sporting achievements," said Faeser.
