In Berlin, around 4,000 state employees will retire each year due to age-related reasons.
This was announced by the Senate Department for Finance on Thursday. For the period from 2022 to 2031, that is around 30 percent of the workforce. Against the backdrop of demographic change, personnel recruitment is therefore a key issue.
Teachers, educators and social workers, for example, are urgently needed. This is the result of the report on bottleneck professions in the Berlin administration, which was presented by Finance Senator Daniel Wesener. Overall, there is a great need for skilled workers in the fields of health, social services, teaching and education, construction, architecture and building technology, as well as natural sciences and information technology.
According to Wesener, the state of Berlin faces the major challenge of being able to meet its high personnel requirements in view of demographic change and the increased demands on public administration. In recent years, the number of employees has risen steadily: from 112,324 in 2013 to 130,418 last year. According to the financial administration, this is mainly due to its own junior staff. On average, around 10,000 employees are undergoing training in the state service, he said.
