From the beginning of 2023, it will be possible to see at a glance how Berlin is doing in terms of compliance with hygiene regulations in cafés, restaurants, snack bars and canteens.
The so-called "Clean Kitchen Act" will come into force as planned, the Senate Department for Consumer Protection announced to the news agency dpa upon request. According to the new law, the results of official food monitoring must be made transparent. According to the Senate Administration, the control result will be presented in the form of a bar chart.
With the help of this so-called "transparency barometer," customers should be able to see more easily before they enter the restaurant or café whether hygiene regulations have been observed in the production, processing and sale of food.
"A legal ordinance, which has already been drafted and which regulates further details on the evaluation system and the presentation of the food monitoring transparency barometer, is also expected to come into force at the beginning of 2023," said the consumer protection administration, which is now responsible and is headed by Senator Bettina Jarasch. The law was developed still in the past election period. At that time, consumer protection was the responsibility of the Senate Department for Justice.
