Bomb detonation: Avus and railway line in Grunewald closed

Closure of the motorway

Closure of the motorway.

Berlin's A115 motorway (Avus) towards Potsdam and the parallel railway line at Grunewald were closed on Wednesday morning due to a planned detonation of World War II bombs.

Preparations for the blast at noon had begun as planned, a police spokesperson said. The motorway between Funkturm and Zehlendorf and the S-Bahn and trains on the route are not expected to be reopened until the afternoon. The S-Bahn asked passengers on the S7 line to use other lines such as the S1.

«Emergency detonation» of the four bombs is planned for 1 p.m.

Four weeks ago, a large fire broke out at the police blast site in Grunewald. There were numerous explosions because the police store unexploded bombs, grenades and ammunition from the Second World War as well as illegal fireworks there.
