Berlin's Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey has expressed her appreciation for former boxing world champion Henry Maske's long-standing commitment to children from low-income families.
On Wednesday, Giffey visited a holiday camp of the Henry Mask Foundation at Beetzsee (Potsdam-Mittelmark) with the former boxing pro. "Holiday offers like these enable participation in life that is otherwise often denied to socially disadvantaged children," said Giffey.
In Berlin, almost every third child also lives in a family with benefits from basic security, the Governing Mayor explained. "The aim of the holiday camp is to give the children and young people a sense of self-worth and to give them a week out from everyday life from which they return feeling strengthened."
Maske has been involved with his foundation for socially disadvantaged children and children affected by poverty for more than 20 years, the Press and Information Office announced. This year, more than 500 children, including Ukrainian children and their families, spent part of their summer holidays at the summer camp.
