Public restrooms in Berlin soon to be partly free of charge

Eröffnung der ersten neuen Berliner Toilette

Because of a large number of break-ins in public restrooms in Berlin, the Senate and the operators are taking new approaches.

As of August 15, 50 of 280 public restrooms operated by Wall will be accessible free of charge, the Senate Department for the Environment announced on Monday. The remaining 230 restrooms can then only be accessed after cashless payment. Credit or giro card, Apple Pay and other payment services or the mobile app "Berliner Toilette" are possible options. The trial will initially last six months. After that, a decision will be made as to which access concept will be used in general in the future.
