There are 7500 places available in Berlin this year for summer school programmes during the long holidays.
This was announced by the education administration on Tuesday. At the general education schools alone, there are 6400, 4020 of them for children between the ages of two and eight. Corresponding offers are also available at vocational schools. The courses usually last two weeks. The aim is to give pupils the opportunity to catch up on learning deficits in certain subjects, especially those caused by the pandemic.
Courses are offered in maths, German and English, for example. Registration is possible through the participating schools. The summer school is coordinated and financed by the Senate Department for Education. In addition, it sponsors free intensive swimming courses for pupils during the summer holidays. For refugee children and young people from Ukraine, the holiday programme "Fit for School PLUS Holiday School" is also offered. The participating children and young people receive learning opportunities to prepare them for school in Berlin.
