The accomodation of Ukrainian war refugees in Berlin will once again be the topic of discussion in the Senate on Tuesday (April 05, 2022).

At its meeting, the Berlin Senate will discuss the accommodation of refugees in the capital and the intended nationwide distribution. The question of long-term housing for refugees who will no longer be accommodated privately is also on the agenda. Another topic of discussion is how refugees who have been discriminated against, for example because of their gender, can be helped as much as possible.

Accommodation costs as another topic of discussion

The members of the Senate also want to talk about the costs of accommodation in preparation for the next federal-state meeting. At the Minister Presidents' Conference (MPK) with Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) on Thursday (07 April 2022), this will be one of the core topics. Berlin has repeatedly pointed out that the federal government has to do its part.

Consultation on pandemic development

Even though most of the Coronavirus measures were already dropped, the Senate will once again discuss the state of the pandemic. The infection figures have recently declined in Berlin and are at the lowest of all federal states. The Senate therefore sees no possibility of using the so-called hotspot regulation in order to reinstate stricter protective measures in Berlin. However, discussing will focus on topics such as how the mask requirement can be extended to other areas besides public transport, hospitals and care facilities.
