Around 1300 refugees from Ukraine arrived by train at Berlin Central Station on Tuesday evening (March 01, 2022).
According to a spokesman for the fire department, the trains had arrived from Poland. The rbb had reported that they were special trains, but a railroad spokesman told the German Press Agency (dpa) upon request that they were regular connections. Helpers provided the people arriving at the station with food and drinks. During the day, Ukrainian refugees had already arrived in Berlin on regular trains. According to Deutsche Bahn, no further long-distance trains from Poland are expected in the night to Wednesday.
Since Sunday, Deutsche Bahn has been allowing refugees with Ukrainian passports or ID cards to use all long-distance trains from Poland to Germany free of charge. Up to eight EuroFity long-distance trains from Poland to Germany run daily in regular service - all via the Frankfurt (Oder) border crossing.
