A project to test automated and connected mobility will start in 2022 on the site of the future Urban Tech Republic innovation campus.
This was announced by the Senate Department for the Environment, Urban Mobility, Consumer Protection and Climate Action on Tuesday (Fe.15, 2022). As part of the KIS'M project, an AI-based connected mobility system will be tested. The project is to be launched during the conversion of the former Tegel Airport into the Urban Tech Republic campus. At the test site, self-driving shuttles will travel without any accompanying persons and make virtual stops.
The aim of the KIS'M project is to provide important insights into the possible introduction of autonomous on-demand services in local public transport. Other research projects include the automated formation of emergency lanes, the acceptance of autonomous means of transport, and the safety aspects of autonomous vehicles. Self-driving vehicles are nothing new in the district ofReinickendorf: small self-driving electric buses were introduced here in 2019 as part of a research project in Alt-Tegel.
