Anti-Semitism can be expressed covertly in jokes, songs or remarks - the Berlin Senate is pointing this fact out with a poster campaign.

Campaign against anti-Semitism launches

"Anti-Semitism has many forms, all of them can be recognized," reads the posters presented by Berlin's Senator for the Interior, Iris Spranger (SPD), on Monday (Jan. 10, 2022). Photos show a man slapping his thighs while laughing, a singer in front of a microphone and a lecturer or teacher in class. "This is anti-Semitism - not a joke" and "This is anti-Semitism - not a rhyme", read some of the headlines.

"Look, recognize, act," the Senate urges. The campaign targets witnesses of anti-Semitic incidents in particular. Anti-Semitism occurs in many facets and is not always recognizable at first glance. The campaign is therefore also intends to "shed light on the darkness" in this area. Posters, moving images and postcards will be on display throughout the city over the next two weeks. An advisory board of experts from the Jewish community was involved in the conception of the campaign. Materials for educational work in schools and other institutions are currently being developed.

Senator Spranger emphasized: "The fight against anti-Semitism is a task for society as a whole. All people in our city are called to action." She stated that everyone in Berlin could watch out for incidents and stand up for those affected.
