Bruno Pélassy and the Order of the Starfish

French artist Bruno Pélassy's works present an appeal for the dissolution of entrenched binaries and conventions - in gender, desire, health and social values.

With "Bruno Pélassy and the Order of the Starfish" the Haus am Waldsee in Berlin is hosting the first institutional solo exhibition of the French artist in Germany. Through formal and playful material excesses in sculpture, couture and jewelry, drawing and film, the exhibition explores Pélassy's artistic practice as a personal and political engagement with the conventions of desire, gender, values and health.

Pélassy meets Collar, Chaimowicz and Matsubara

Significantly influenced by an early HIV diagnosis, Pélassy's work reflects the ambivalent dynamics of illness and death as well as an understanding of the body as a porous, imponderable entity. In the exhibition at Haus am Waldsee, Pélassy's artistic approach enters into an exchange with selected artworks and ephemera by his contemporaries as well as by artists working today. The group exhibition will include contributions by Marc Camille Chaimowicz, Beth Collar, Jesse Darling, Brice Dellsperger, Leonor Fini, James Richards, and Soshiro Matsubara.
