Biennale of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra

Chefdirigent Kirill Petrenko

The Principal Conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Kirill Petrenko.

The second edition of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra's Biennale in 2023 focused on the experimental music of the 1950s and 1960s.

The years following the Second World War were a fascinating artistic period whose innovative concepts are worth rediscovering. In post-war Germany, the music scene strove for a fundamentally new beginning. New concepts and innovative formats emerged with a great joy in artistic experimentation. The 2023 Berlin Philharmonic Biennale was dedicated to the experimental music from this post-war era and especially to the composer György Ligeti, whose 100th birthday was on May 28, 2023.
