Berlin Dragonboat City Cup

Drachenboot

The Berlin Dragonboat City Cup takes place at the Olympic Regatta Course in Berlin-Grünau. More than 70 teams from all over Germany will be competing.

In the dragon boat race, which originated in China, the participating teams compete for victory. Various disciplines over 200, 500 or 1,000 meters have to be completed. A colorful supporting program takes place all around. Part of it are the traditional kite dew pulling and musical background.

History of the Dragonboat City Cup

According to legend, the poet Qu Yuan threw himself into the Chinese river Mi Muo around 300 BC. As a result, his followers took boats to the river and hit the water with their paddles to protect the body from the fish. This story inspired the establishment of the Dragon Boat City Cup in Hong Kong in 1976. Now, 5,000 athletes in 200 teams from 11 countries participate in the annual dragon boat race.
