Every year, the Berlin Museum of European Cultures organizes the European Culture Days focusing on a particular country or region.

The respective country is examined from various perspectives in an extensive program of events with different formats. In previous years, Poland, Estonia, Greece, Småland, Georgia, Scotland and Slovakia were among the countries honored. This year, the focus is on the Sápmi region.

A look at Sápmi after 20 years

The first European Cultural Days in 2000 focussed on the mysterious region in the north of Europe. More than 20 years later, the Culture Days look both back and into the future. Under the motto ‘We celebrate our culture and protect our land’, the programme addresses current issues and challenges facing the region and its inhabitants.

European Culture Days 2024: Program Highlights

Guided tours, workshops, culinary events and concerts will take place during the European Cultural Days. Selected highlights:

  • The Sámi yoik singer Sara-Helén Persson will perform at the opening of the Culture Days on 15 August at 6 pm. Typical Finnish delicacies will be served.
  • The "Áimmuin" project room will be showing the museum's Sámi collection to a wide audience for the first time.
  • On 14 September from 7 pm, DJ iDJa will create a great atmosphere. In his sets, he combines Sámi musical tradition with new technologies, creating space for introspection and exuberance at the same time.
  • The highlight of the finissage on 15 September at 6 pm is the concert with Ánnamáret and Ilkka Heinonen. It combines Sámi singing with Karelian sounds.
