Tiergarten itself does not have too many residential neighborhoods and mostly upscale apartment buildings. It is cheaper and easier to find an apartment in one of the old buildings in Moabit. The Hansaviertel offers modern functional buildings amidst green surroundings.

Location
Tiergarten is centrally located. The district is bordered to the north and east by the Berlin-Spandau navigation canal and the former course of the Berlin Wall between Brandenburg Gate and Potsdamer Platz. The southern border is Kurfürstenstraße, the western border is the Tiergarten, or Zoological Garden, and the Charlottenburg junction canal.
Public Transport
There are two S-Bahn lines crossing the district from west to east, the Stadtbahn and the Ringbahn, as well as a subway line (U9) and numerous buses. Berlin's largest long-distance train station, the Hauptbahnhof, is located in Tiergarten and connects Berlin with the rest of Germany and Europe.
Traffic Axes
The main traffic axes in Tiergarten are Straße des 17. Juni, Alt-Moabit, Stromstraße and Potsdamer Straße.
