Berlin-Hermsdorf is characterized by numerous farmhouses, some of them very old, mixed with Wilhelminian villas, new and old housing estates, warehouses, and parks. The neighborhood's lifeline is Heinsestraße, which offers various shopping facilities. Nature dominates in the far south: Tegeler Fließ and Lake Hermsdorf are popular local recreational destinations.
Hermsdorf
Hermsdorf is a quiet and sedate villa suburb on the border to Brandenburg, which has a lot of nature to offer.
Hermsdorf: Nature in the Northwest of Berlin
In the north, Hermsdorf borders on the garden city Berlin-Frohnau and the tranquil Glienicke, which already belongs to Brandenburg. Tegel Forest and the aforementioned Tegeler Fließ to the west and east offer beautiful greenery. The development in Hermsdorf itself is also close to nature: most of the houses here have well-kept adjacent gardens, and the many old street trees form shady avenues.
Old Village Center of Hermsdorf
The historic village center of the neighborhood is located at the eastern end of the street Alt-Hermsdorf. The beautiful village church is also located there. The current center of Hermsdorf is located on Heinsestraße around the S-Bahn station of the same name. It offers cafés, restaurants, food markets, and much more.
Lake Hermsdorf and Lake Waldsee
There are several lakes and ponds in Hermsdorf, most of them in the area east of the railway line. Lake Hermsdorf (German: Hermsdorfer See) is the largest of them. A five-kilometer circular hiking trail leads through the marshland around the lake and also past former gateways. The Waldsee lake, from which the Waldsee district takes its name, is surrounded by a park with walking paths and a playground.
