  • Café Kiezkind on Helmholtzplatz

The words "Babylatte" are written on the menu board at the "Kiezkind" café in the Prenzlauer Berg district of Berlin. The neighborhood is famous for its many children - and for its parents, who take their offspring very seriously.

In the Helmholtzkiez in Prenzlauer Berg, you can stroll between beautifully renovated old buildings, nice cafés and small shops. And the Helmi is actually quite nice too.

From trendy neighborhood to family paradise: The district around Helmholtzplatz is very popular with parents with young children. The Helmholtzkiez in Prenzlauer Berg is also known for its variety of restaurants and its beautiful old buildings from the Wilhelminian era.

Location of the Helmholtzkiez in Prenzlauer Berg

Helmholtzkiez is located in the center of Prenzlauer Berg, between Ringbahn, Prenzlauer Allee, Danziger Straße and Schönhauser Allee. In the center of the Kiez is Helmholtzplatz, affectionately known by some as Helmi and named after the physicist Hermann von Helmholtz. Thanks to the streets Lychener Straße, Schliemannstraße and Dunckerstraße running across Helmi, this part of the Kiez is also known as the LSD quarter.

Urban Greenery and Places of Interest

The two big green spots in the neighborhood are Helmholtzplatz and the Friedhofspark Pappelallee. There are old, tall trees on Helmi, which provide shade for the children playing, the ping-pong tables and the neighborhood meeting place. The Friedhofspark is a former cemetery that is now used as a public park. To prevent vandalism to the remaining graves, it is locked in the evening. Well-known buildings in the neighborhood include the Gethsemane Church, the Elias Church and the Göhrener Ei ensemble of buildings. A popular park near the Helmholtzkiez is the Mauerpark in the Gleimviertel.
